Dear HGRA Community:

Your child’s safety and welfare has always been our top priority.  Therefore, due to the continuing risks of the coronavirus and in keeping with the State’s directives, we will proceed as follows:

Scenario 1

If we know on or before June 15 that it is safe to proceed, we will begin our soccer, baseball and track programs on Monday, June 29.  With creative scheduling and good weather, we still can bring you a quality program featuring practices and most of the games that were originally scheduled.

If we get good news soon and can open earlier than that, we will do so.

Scenario 2

If by June 15 we do not have sufficient assurances that it is safe to hold practices and games we will announce the cancellation of the summer season at that time.

We remain hopeful that we can still spend part of our summer watching our kids score goals, hit home runs and race like the wind.

We will update you as soon as we know more.

President's Update

March 16th, 2020

Dear Present and Past HGRA Registrants:

We want to assure you that we are monitoring developments relating to Coronavirus COVID-19 very carefully. We intend to comply fully with the guidance and directives from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health.

The CDC is currently recommending that activities of more than 50 people be postponed for 8 weeks. We are going to honor that directive, which will take us right up to the opening weeks of HGRA Soccer and Baseball. We remain hopeful that after the 8 weeks, those seasons can proceed and we can all enjoy a summer of HGRA soccer and baseball with our friends and neighbors. If the guidance changes, we will evaluate our options and be in touch.

HGRA Track is scheduled to begin on April 29, which falls short of the CDC recommended postponement.Since the situation seems to change almost on a daily basis, we still hope that we might be able to start on that date but we are also making plans for possible postponement of the start of the HGRA Track season. We will continue to watch for developments and keep you advised.

We know that a number of you have not yet signed up because you are waiting to see what happens. We understand your concerns. Therefore, we are extending the deadline for on-time registration through March 31 and will not assess our $10.00 late fee until after that date so that we can gain a little more clarity.

We think a summer of HGRA sports would be a welcome relief from the difficult times we are going through. So, let’s follow the experts’ advice and stay safe so that we can all be together this summer on the HGRA playing fields.

We will follow up when we know more about our plans.

Dennis Merley
HGRA President

BACKGROUND CHECK

HGRA's background check process allows each adult volunteer to go online to a secure website and fill out the necessary information.  HGRA is excited about this expanded program and very proud to be one of the few recreational associations taking the lead on providing its youth and adults with such a comprehensive program aimed at protecting many of those involved in youth sports in Minnesota.

CONCUSSION AWARENESS

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports. The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion.
