5U Soccer Scramble

  • Format: The 5U league is HGRA's entry-level soccer program for 4 and 5 year-olds.  Each session starts with a 30-minute group activity conducted by experienced trainers from the St. Paul Blackhawks Soccer Club followed by 30 minutes of small-sided (4v4) games supervised by HGRA staff.    Each week, the players will participate in 60 minutes of coach-led activities and games designed to develop the player in a fun, high-energy environment.
  • Equipment:  Players should wear shoes they are comfortable running in.  Shoes with laces are preferred over those with Velcro.  Cleats are not required or even recommended.  Shinquards are required with socks that cover the entire shinguard.  We will have a supply of both on sale at the fields for $5 each.
  • Balls: Each player will be given a ball at the start of the season.  The balls can be taken home and should be brought to each session.  Players can keep a ball at the end of the season, but don't write their name on it until the season is over.  Just grab one after the session since they are all alike.
  • Scheduling: This league meets once per week on the day you selected (Sunday or Tuesday).  Sessions start at 3:00, 3:30, 4:00 or 4:30 pm on Sundays and  5:30, 6:00, 6:30 or 7:00 pm on Tuesdays (start times rotate each week on Tuesdays except for the 5:30 sessions).
  • Location: All sessions are held at the Carondelet Fields between Cretin-Derham Hall High School and Expo Elementary School on Albert Street just south of Randolph Avenue..
  • "Team" formation:  After the introductory group activity, "teams" are picked randomly for the games..
  • Are volunteers needed? Since the group activities and games are led by  Blackhawks coaches  and HGRA staff, there is no need for volunteer parent coaches in this league.   There are no separate practices for this league.
  • Buddy  Requests: If a child wishes to be in the same group (day/time) as another child, please indicate the desired "buddy's" name in the buddy request during registration and have the other child's family enter your child's name when they register. We will do our best to pair them up.  When the teams are selected at random for the games, just have the two hold hands so they can play together.
