Baseball Coach Meeting

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 (7:00p.m. - 8:30p.m.) - Hillcrest Rec Center Gym

If you signed up to coach baseball or t-ball, please attend. You’ll meet your co-coach and get your rosters, uniforms, equipment and lots of helpful info!

HGRA Baseball is a coed, recreational program for beginners, veterans and everyone in between. We stress sportsmanship, learning and fun.

Age requirements for baseball

T-Ball Coed 9/1/01 - 8/31/03
Rookies (Coach Pitch) Coed 9/1/99 - 8/31/01 *
Minor League (Adv. Coach Pitch) Coed 9/1/98 - 8/31/00 *
Major League (Little League Rules) Coed 9/1/95 - 8/31/98
Landmark League (Babe Ruth Rules) Coed 9/1/91 - 8/31/95*

*Players born between 9/1/99 and 8/31/00 may choose to play either in the Rookie or Minor League.

T-ball: The little folks learn the basics (how to swing, where to run, etc.). There is no score, and everyone bats and fields. The kids have a great time (and their parents do too).

Rookies: Again, no score and everyone bats. However, coaches pitch and outs are called.

Minor League: A transition to real baseball. It is still “coach pitch” but a batter gets only 8 pitches and a team only gets 3 outs. Competitive games will be played at the end of the season.

Major League: Real baseball with Little League rules but no undue pressure. Kids pitch, umpires make the call, and exciting games are played every week. We cap it all off with an all day, season-ending tournament. HGRA’s Major League is a high quality, positive baseball experience.

Landmark League: 13 - 16 year olds play big time baseball in the fastest growing league in St. Paul. We’ve extended the age limit by a year so that kids can keep playing great baseball the HGRA way.

Monday Night Pitching Camp

Any Minor or Major Leaguer can drop by the Carondelet softball field (next to Expo School) at 7:00 on Monday nights for an hour of free pitching instruction. If your child wants to learn to pitch or to pitch better, we’ve got high school and college pitchers ready to work with them.

We also are planning a special visit from a local pitching coach or two. Camp begins on Monday, May 5

Our Season:

May 12 - July 24 (except Landmark League)
May 27 - July 24 (Landmark League)
July 26 - Major League tournament
July 27 - Landmark League playoffs

All teams are expected to practice at least once a week on a day and time selected by the coach.

Are we the right program for your family?

Our idea of a good time is sitting with friends and neighbors on summer evenings watching kids have fun playing baseball. If you want intensive training and competition, or if winning matters the most, HGRA may not be for you. But if you want baseball and sportsmanship taught in a positive way where everyone can have fun, why not join your friends and neighbors at HGRA Baseball?

HGRA baseball players learn the game the right way - nobody pushing too hard, and no fear of failure sapping their enjoyment. Kids develop skills in a way that makes them want to play baseball.

HGRA is just right for busy families. We play and practice once a week - enough for a quality experience but mindful of parents’ need to give time and attention to all the kids.

HGRA also works for kids who play another sport more intensively. We don’t make kids choose between two sports - there is time for both at HGRA.

Playing Up or Down

We place kids according to age so they can play with their pals and make new friends. However, if a child is within a week or two of the cutoff and has played at least one year in the league that matches the child’s age, we will consider a request to move up. All other requests will be denied.

Playing down is permitted only to accommodate a disability.

Our Rookie and Minor Leagues overlap to give flexibility in choosing the right level of play. Please honestly assess your child’s skills. Kids tend to have the best experience when they play with kids their own age and ability level.
